Hello everyone! This week Ghostcrawler made a debut on Dev’s Diary and talked.. August 3, 2017
With the recent patches, Chogath has become a toptier pick and works well in any game. He can win games for you easily, once you learn his kit of course. I’m here to explain the champion, along with why you should play him. We will take a look at his tankiness, damage, utility, and scaling. Then, I will take paragraph to tell everyone how to play him. If you end up liking him but don’t want to play him on your main, you can always get a smurf for yourself, and you can get good at him.
Chogath is a mega-tank. He doesn’t need normal tank items because his ult gives him infinite health, with feast stacks. You don’t need to build mostly items with health and resistances (e.g. Dead Man’s Plate, on him because of that, allowing you to build items such as Righteous Glory, Locket, and Gargoyle’s Stoneplate. You get up to almost 1,000 HP for just devouring 6 minions, and devouring a champion or epic monster (herald, drake, baron) gives you another stack (160 HP at rank 3 ult). This alone can give a Chogath 10k HP by lategame with a proper build. Getting a new lol account and buying HP and Scaling HP runes will amplify your damage aswell!
With that being mentioned, Chogath’s ult scales off his health. His ultimate can deal 300 true damage at rank one, being a devastating damage source on a gank and winning any 1v1. His damage during the late-game is insane aswell.
With 10 stacks of feast and a full build which I will mention later, Chogath’s ult will deal near 1,600 damage. With an active Gargoyle’s Stoneplate that doubles his health, he will be near 18k HP and have a 2,200 true damage ult on a point and click ability. As you can see in the image, I’m not exaggerating his damage either. And he only has 11 stacks in this image, which isn’t even hard to achieve. Just 6 monsters and a combination of 5 drakes, barons, and champions.
The thing to note is that Gargoyle’s Stoneplate doesn’t reduce Chogath’s ult damage because Chogath has true damage.
And now utility. With his AOE Knockup, silence, and slow, this champions a monster that only lacks a constant gapcloser (flash doesn’t count). He used to not be meta due to his Q being hard to hit on running targets, but now with a slow, he can hit it much easier. He makes for a great ganker and peeler, and his righteous glory allows him to get right into the middle of a fight and apply that CC to enemy carries.
But the strongest thing about Chogath is his scaling. From level 1, he can trade with almost every melee champion and come out ontop. But his jungle clear is amazing aswell. He takes literally no damage from doing a full-clear, and his clear speed is comparable to a champion like warwick.
Though his early game is incredibly strong, his mid-game and late-game are still strong, assuming chogath gets a good early game and he can now pop his righteous glory and keep an enemy CCed until he or his team kills that target.
And the best part about Chogath is his shield. With Locket during lategame, you can shield your entire team for 2,000 damage. And thats huge, especially for ADCs. With a new lol account, you can OTP chogath and do this every single game you play, and ADC mains will rush to you with their skin offerings for you to protect them throughout a game.
Now a quick, quick guide to playing Chogath. For jungle, Red or Blue Cinderhulk into Righteous Glory into Mercurial Treads into Gargoyle’s Stoneplate into Locket of the Iron Solari into Warmogs Armor.
For toplane, get a situational CDR item as your 6ths item but rush items in the same order. Trust me, that build will get you places. For Jungling, start E at raptors. You can clear raptors red krugs scuttle then gank/back or raptors red wolves blue gromp scuttle gank/back. And you’ll be at full health so start with Talisman and Refillable.
Not sure where to start? Buy a new LoL account to test this in a lower elo and start smurfing around, because even a first-time ChoGath can carry a game. Just devour their ADC. 🙂
